Bamenda:

Archbishop Nkea Consoles Main Market Fire Victims

Story, Prince Oben Agbor

The Archbishop of Bamenda, the Most Reverend Andrew Nkea, has visited and consoled traders of the Bamenda Main Market.

The Archbishop made an impromptu visit to the market on Tuesday, March 12. During the visit, consoled victims of the fire incident which engulfed the market razing at least 300 shops last February 22.

The Most Reverend Andrew Nkea took time to visit all corners of the market especially the affected portion. He blessed the traders and gave them words of comfort.

The visit was also an opportunity to meet with leaders of the Traders’ Union of the Bamenda Main Market. He had a brief working session with the Market Master and his staff.

The presence of the prelate in the market brought a lot of joy among the traders. Before leaving the Bamenda Main Market, the Most Reverend Andrew Nkea enjoined the traders to be courageous.

He reminded them that: “No matter the difficulties that come our way, we should remember that God will never abandon his people”.

Prior to the visit and immediately after the fire incident, the Archbishop of Bamenda had urged those affected by the inferno not to give up but trust in God.

Drawing inspiration from the Book of Job in the Holy Bible, Archbishop Andrew Nkea had called on the traders to find strength in faith and unite in the face of the calamity.

In his message to the victims then, he noted that “we are faced with a similar situation like Job, with many questions in our minds, wondering why such things should happen.”

He had also advised that: “But like Job trusted in God and his condition was restored, we too must hold firm to our faith.”

The message offered comfort and hope, and served as a reminder to the grieving community to find strength in its faith and unite in this period of difficulties.

Worthy of note is that the fire incident burnt down about 300 shops.

It occurred a fortnight after another fire incident hit a clothing shop at the Commercial Avenue where the Bamenda Main Market is located
