Dignitaries join hundreds to bid farewell to Motomby Mbome’s father

The President of the Cameroon Athletics Federation, Motomby Mbombe, has given his father, Mbome Samuel Lyonga, a befitting burial.
Late Pa Mbome Samuel was buried over the weekend. The Funeral service was held at Presbyterian Church, PC Molyko –Buea, Fako Division of the South West Region.
Officiating servants of God at the funeral were; Rev. Ayuk Jones Ebot, Rev. Mary Wose, Rev. Talikong Amos, Rev. Njie Ngale, Rev. Ajoambom George , Rev. Dr. Tabi Pascaline, Rev Igeh John, Rev. Ebango Florence and Rev. Mbebang Akupa.
Also present at the funeral service was the Governor of the South West Region, President of the South West Regional Assembly, the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, Fako; the Divisional Officer, DO of Buea Senator Mbella Moki Charles, Senator Mofa Fonderson, Hon Monkondo Findy Stanley, Hon Malomba M’Erzembe, the CEO of Dash Media, Bony Danshaco, the Director of the Buea Annex General Hospital, family and friends.
Late Pa Mbome Samuel died on June 27, 2023 at the Biaka Hospital in Buea.
Late Pa Mbome Samuel Lyonga Esongami was born on November 1942 in Bwiteva village to Iya Elizabeth Nalowa Lyonga and Tata Thomas Walimbe Woloa of blessed Memory.
Pa Mbome obtained his FSLC in the days of the Basel Mission in 1956. Pa Mbome sat for the Basel Mission College exam into CPC Bali and emerged successful. Pa Mbome’s passion for teaching saw him gain employment as a teacher with the Basel Mission in 1959, and was transferred to Tiko where he opened the Presbyterian School Tiko.
In 1961, Pa Mbome wrote the public exam where he passed the entrance examination to the Teachers Training College Batibo to do the grade 3 course which he completed a year later.
Upon Completion, Pa Mbombe was posted to Batoke Basel School, now Government School Batoke as Headmaster in 1962. Pa returned back to Batibo training College in 1964 to do the grade II certificate and completed.
Pa Mbome was posted to Mokundange as Head Master. Mbome later on obtained a grade I Certificate and the same year got married to his wife Nyango Mary Mojoko Mbome nee Motomby.
Pa Mbome’s Christain Life
Pa Mbome served the Lord wholeheartedly such that he was elected Parish Chairperson in 1984 of the Muea Parish of the PCC for two terms. He was elected CMF Zonal Coordinator from 1997-2002; Zonal Adviser No I from 2002- 2006 and Presbytery Adviser no. II from 2006-2007. Pa Mbome stepped out of active service after he had an accident in 2010.
Political Life
Pa Mbome got involved in politics and became the first ever District Chairperson of the Social Democratic Front, SDF in Buea. In 1992, Pa Mbome and M.A Nkuku Mwingwe both received the SDF Chairman Late Ni John Fru Ndi during his first ever visit to Buea.
Due to the prominence of his son as a Cameroon People Democratic Movement CPDM, representative, Pa Mbome disassociated himself from SDF in April 1996 and joined the CPDM party and became a member till his departure from the world on June 27, 2023.
Family Life
Pa Mbome Samuel Lyonga got married to Mama Mary Mojoko Mbome nee Motomby in 1964 and were blessed with four Children; two girls and two boys.
As an African man, Pa Mbome had three other children making a total of seven. He leaves behind 14 grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren.
Service To Nation
Pa served the state of Cameroon with one mind in the educational system. He served as Headmaster in the following schools, G.S Batoke, Moondance, Batoke again, Bafia in Muyuka, Ekona Yard, Bova and Molyko.
Pa was nick named ‘Director of Bush Schools’ and towards the end of his career, he served as Discipline Master in B.G.S Molyko where he retired in 2002.
Pa Mbome had faced a lot of health challenges as he suffered a stroke in 1993. Accidents in 2010 rendered him immobile as he sustained a broken leg and a dislocated hip. Pa suffered a second stroke in February 2023 when he succumbed to death on June 27, 2023 at the Biaka Hospital in Buea.
