On Return Home:
Here Are Hot Files On Biya’s Table
Story, KAH Patience
The Head of State, President Paul Biya returned to the country yesterday after spending a month abroad. He had left the country to take part in the New Global Financing Pact summit in Paris France. Biya returned to the country and was received by state authorities as he touched down at the Nsimalen International Airport alongside First Lady, Chantal Biya.
Despite having left the country on June 23, the Head of State had been controlling government action from his base in Europe where he is believed to have been on private stay after the summit without hitches.
But his return to the country yesterday, highly placed sources hinted, means some hot files which have been on his table will be treated speedily. It is thus a President whom many say, has refreshed and is back to serve his people without reserve like he has done in the years past.
State corporations
There are reports that, the President could make major adjustments in the management apparatus of several corporations. Such changes, it is said, may not exclude appointing Board chairpersons or General Managers where necessary.
For one thing, just recently, the former Deputy Director General of the Advanced Institute of Public Management, AIPM, Prof Vivian Bilowa Ondoa , recently released a write up which she catalogued some managers of State corporations whose mandates have expired since. This is as per the new law of 2017.
Even before her write up, analysts who hold records of Biya’s leadership trappings since assuming the supreme magistracy, say he has never defaulted on any law. He has been rated as a celebrated legalist for always staying on the side of the law.
With this in mind, there are indications that on the table of the Head of State as he resumes work in the country will be that of cleaning the leadership of corporations and pumping in new blood.
Situation of Governors
Beyond State corporations, another delicate file which is said to be among hot issues the Head of State would attend to is that relating to the administrative set up of regions. It is reported that, some administrators at the helm of regions who had long gone on retirement may be replaced in the days ahead.
It Is not secret that a majority of Governors in the country’s 10 regions long attained retirement age. It will therefore not be a surprise if the Head of State uses his golden pen to put new verve into the management of regions.
State Universities
Within the education sector, Paul Biya, who has remained unpredictable in the management and appointment of public office holders is said to also have on his table, a file relating to State universities. Within this perspective, Cameroonians especially young stars who will be heading to universities for the first time for the 2023/2024 academic year may be welcomed by new rectors and new Vice Chancellors.
Official funeral for Fru Ndi?
Another important file on Paul Biya’s table as he returns to work from his base in Yaounde is that of decreeing an official funeral for the late emblematic National Chairman of the opposition Social Democratic Front, SDF, Ni John Fru Ndi.
With the late chairman expected to be buried this weekend in his native Baba II, many say, given his influence and contribution to nation building, Fru Ndi deserves to be given the highest of state honour. In this light, one of such way of showing respect to the deceased veteran politician will be to decree an official funeral in his honour.
