Mayor Ends Effective Schooling Campaign with Major Donations

By Peter Tasi

The Mayor of the Belo Council in Boyo Division of the North West Region, Dr Ngong Innocent, has ended a boisterous back-to-school campaign he engaged with a major donation to some 200 children.

The gift of exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers and erasers were handed to the children recently at the Belo Market Square.

Parents from the villages that make up the municipality trooped in to ensure their children benefit from the gesture.

Speaking during the donation, the mayor said:”…Education is a key to your upbringing. We are providing these didactics as part of our efforts to make sure you go to school”.

He further reminded them that the availability of public schools by the Head of State is in itself a measure to ensure access to education for all without discrimination.

“The Head of State says public schools are free, from primary school through secondary and university. I attended a public school. I also want you all to benefit from the same,” the mayor stated.

“Those advocating for school boycott don’t have their relatives here. Their children and wives are settled out of Belo and are going to school. Why should they ask you not to send your children to school? I leave you with that question,” the workaholic mayor Dr Ngong stated.

He reiterated the council’s plans to continue with the donations as over 1000 books are still available to ensure children go to school. He made it crystal clear that the education program is inscribed as part of his vision of “Making Belo Great Again”.

The gift of didactics comes after another campaign which the Divisional Officer, DO of Belo subdivision, Ken Hilary Awah and Colonel Yaouba, the Head of State’s special detachment in a quest for peace in the area carried out.

Yaouba told the masses that “the army is going nowhere. The army has come to stay…where you have our soldiers deployed you can access the schools there. Access these schools and educate your children”. The call was only an ignition into a philosophical reflection from D.O Hilary Awah.
